An den Grenzen des Geschlossenen und Halboffenen, des Undurchsichtigen und Porösen, welche Formen können unsere Begegnungen und Existenzen annehmen?

1 Km ist eine Serie von Video-Loops. Sie zeigen Blumen, die ich im Frühjahr 2020 in den Straßen, Parks und Gärten meiner Nachbarschaft entdeckt habe. Durch die Schließung von Geschäften und Arbeitsplätzen und die eingeschränkte Mobilität, ohne Freunde und Familie besuchen zu können, haben Spaziergänge in meiner Nachbarschaft eine neue Bedeutung erhalten.
Mein Haus und die nahe gelegenen Straßen waren das gesamte physische Universum, das ich bewohnen durfte. Die leeren Straßen waren mit Wildblumen gefüllt, die Gärten grün. Die ganze Natur begann mit der Intensität des Frühlings zu vibrieren, während die Welt der Menschen durch die Quarantäne von Covid-19 in einer seltsamen Ruhe eingeschlossen war. Mit der durch die Schließung aller Aktivitäten demontierten Zeitlichkeit der Stadt, gewinnt die Natur ihre Rolle als Zeitgeber zurück, nach der man sich richten kann.
Diese Sammlung von Bildern erinnert an die Schaffung eines Mikrokosmos, in dem man sich vorübergehend aufhält - entweder weil die Quarantäne vorbei ist, oder weil die Blumen am Ende ihres Frühlingszyklus verwelken.

1 Km is a series of video loops. They show flowers that I discovered in the streets, parks and gardens of my neighbourhood in the spring of 2020. Due to the closure of shops and workplaces and limited mobility, without being able to visit friends and family, walks in my neighbourhood took on a new meaning.
My home and nearby streets constituted the totality of the physical universe that I was allowed to inhabit. The empty streets were filled with wildflowers, the gardens were green. All of nature began to vibrate with the intensity of spring, while the human world was locked up in a strange quietness by the quarantine of Covid-19. The temporality of the city disintegrated by the closure of all activities , and thus nature regained its role as a timer to be followed.
This collection of images recalls the creation of a microcosm in which one is temporarily suspended - either because the quarantine is over, or because the flowers wither at the end of their spring cycle.

Die Berührung erfolgt quasi exklusiv durch die Tasten der Medieninstrumentarien, während die emotionale Verbindung unkörperlich auf der dünnen Bildoberfläche des Screens stattfindet. Körperlich und Unkörperlich zugleich: persönlich und politisch. Der Kontakt mit den eigenem geteilten „Ich“ scheitert, während durch die Fenster des Bildschirms die Welt da draußen mit ihrem harten Gesicht von Krieg, Pandemie und Ungleichheit in Erscheinung tritt.

Inspired by Jean-Luc Nancy's theories on touch, the work associates isolation in the Corona period with the accompanying absence of physical contact. Touch is almost exclusively through the keys of electronic devices, while the emotional connection takes place incorporeally on the thin surface of the screen. Physical and incorporeal at the same time: personal and political. The contact with one's own shared "I" collapses, while through the windows of the screen the world outside appears with its hard face of war, the pandemic and inequality.

Etwas wurde von uns abgekapselt, wurde verschüttet, gar verdrängt. Etwas wird wieder bewusst, das Kleinste oder das Niedrigste, das Unscheinbarste bekommt Gesicht.

Grundgedanke ist, dass inzwischen das »In die Natur gehen« im Grunde nicht eine natürliche Umgebung meint, sondern (notgedrungen) eine vom Menschen angelegte Natur. Die Stühle erlauben es, dass man sich in diesem Sinne in die Natur setzen kann.

Der LVP ist für mich während der Corona Zeit »the place to be« geworden. Wenn es mir nach menscheln zu Mute war, also wenn ich Menschen um mich herum sehen und die Wahrscheinlichkeit erhöhen wollte, bekannten Menschen ungeplant zu begegnen und ein bisschen »DistanzBerührung« gepaart mit Inspiration zu erfahren, habe ich dort meine oft Mantra-artigen flanier-Runden gemacht.
Das Wort »positiv« hat sich während der Corona- Zeit für mich sehr stark aufgeladen. Es vereint für mich zwei Arten von Herausforderungen: zum einen positiv-denkend und zum anderen negativ-viral zu bleiben.

The LVP has become "the place to be" for me during the Corona period. When I felt like being human, i.e. when I wanted to see people around me and increase the probability to meet people I knew in an unplanned way and experience a little "distance touch" paired with inspiration, I took my often mantra-like walks there. The word "positive" became very charged for me during the Corona period. It combines two kinds of challenges for me: to think positively and to remain viral negative.

Ich glaube etwas zu begreifen, aber im nächsten Moment zerfällt das Verständnis. Die Wirklichkeiten verschwimmen, Wahrheiten zu erkennen bleibt schwer, doch es bleibt ein Gefühl von geteilter Erfahrung - auch wenn die Realitäten der Erfahrungen unterschiedlicher nicht sein könnten.
»Wie geht es euch heute?« Alles geschieht sehr nah am aktuellen Moment, eine Zukunft denken ist unmöglich geworden. »Wie geht es dir heute?« Die Frage ist keine reine Floskel mehr.
»Ich bin desorientiert, alt und habe Asthma.« Die ernsthafte Frage erhält die ehrliche Antwort. Rührung und Empathie begleiten dieses Vakuum.
»Ich sende euch eine digitale Umarmung.«
Wie können wir kollaborieren ohne physische Begegnung? Wie kann Kunst in dieser Übergangsphase sichtbar werden? Wir bewegen uns in einem Hybrid aus digitalen und physikalischen Räumen, alle sowohl unendlich weit als auch klein und beengt. Wir leben im öffentlichen Raum - Wohnzimmer und Schlafzimmer sind zu Konferenzräumen und Büros geworden. Für Privates ist mein Zuhause zu unsicher geworden, Gruppen in geschlossenen Räumen lösen Unbehagen aus. Doch das Draußen, das lange als temporärer Übergangsraum diente, ist zu einem intimen Ort geworden. Ich habe dort nichts zu befürchten - wir sind uns alle nahe. Ich zeige dir meinen persönlichen öffentlichen Ort.

One moment, I think I can grasp something, but in the next my understanding disintegrates. As realities blur and truths remain difficult to recognize, there is a feeling of shared experience- even if the realities of the experiences could not be more different.
»How are you today?« Everything is happening close to the current moment, picturing a future has become impossible. »How are you today?« The question is no longer rhetorical.
»I am disoriented, old and have asthma.« The serious question receives an honest answer. This vacuum is accompanied by emotion and empathy. »I'm sending you all a digital hug.«
How can we collaborate without physical encounters? How can art become visible in this transitional phase? We move in a hybrid of digital and physical spaces - all of them both infinitely wide and incredibly narrow and small. We live in public places now - ever since our living rooms and bedrooms have become conference rooms and offices. My home has become too unsafe for private matters - groups in closed spaces inspires unease. The outside, a space that has long served as a transitional space, has again become an intimate space. I have nothing to fear there; we’ve all become very close. Let me show you my personal public place.
